Felecia L. Brodie
Hi! I am Felecia Brodie, a post-menopausal Black woman who is active, energetic & fit and below is my story.
How it started.
I was born with hypermobile Ehler’s-Danlos syndrome. hEDS is a condition that affects connective tissue. For every person with hEDS, symptoms impact differently. It also impacts same person differently from day-to-day. hEDS is the most common type of EDS & there is no cure. That is the frame of reference from which I live my life, regularly searching for ways to minimize the frequently painful impact of hEDS on my daily life.
How I discovered peptides.
While preparing for a planned surgery, I sought ways to support my body, aiming for the best possible outcome knowing I was already doing all that I knew to do. I accidentally stumbled into BPC-157 & TB-500. That was my entry into the world of peptides & bioregulators, stuff I never knew existed. They called it ‘the wolverine stack’, I called it ‘the fountain of youth.’ Little did I know…
I traveled deep into the rabbit hole of learning, gathering information, studying, making connections, observing other’s lived experiences, listening to podcast after podcast, falling asleep while reading literature & absorbing massive amounts of new information realizing the world of peptides was exactly what my body needed. I was FIRED UP!
Why this work? Why peptides in menopause?
Navigating through menopause alone was a nightmare. I was told to “exercise more; eat less.” As a professional level dancer & avid swimmer, along with weight training & good eating habits, there were two things I knew for certain: I did not need to exercise more and I did not need to eat less.
Having already decided to take my health destiny into my own hands, I knew I wanted to learn more about peptides, not just GLP-1’s specifically because no single provider could treat my hEDS. Those that did offer some relief, I always had to wait for an appointment, make sure I had funds were on hand (because none of them accepted insurance) & a plethora of other roadblocks always stood in my way of getting symptom relief when I needed it. And, my menopause symptoms were all over the place with no clear direction or end in sight.
So, I dove in.
I learned & discovered there are peptides for repair; peptides to decrease inflammation; peptides to decrease my neuropathy pain; peptides to aid with memory; peptides to help increase thermogenesis; peptides to increase muscle density & strength; peptides to help improve collogen quality; peptides to help improve sleep, reduce anxiety, improve mood, reduce fat, lose weight, my goodness! There are so many amazing compounds! Initially, all I was searching for was help to prepare my body for a better surgical outcome. Instead, I tumbled head first into this amazing world of research peptides.
My purpose, mission & motivation is to partner with other Black women who historically are left out of spaces & information that we absolutely can benefit from to better ourselves, our health, and communities.
When Black women are healthy and thriving; Black communities are stronger.
And so, it began.
